In the April 2009 presidential elections 989 thousand people voted for Iveta Radičová as a representative of the opposition and 1.235 thousand voted for Ivan Gašparovič, which is only 24.9% more, but still quite a lot.
In the European Parliament elections three weeks ago, parties that can be counted as opposition parties gained 406 thousand votes and parties linked to the coalition 421 thousand, so only 3.7% more. Yes, I know, the election turnout is half, but the question arises whom this benefits. It was mostly older people that voted.
The difference is getting smaller and it should not be a surprise. The economic and mostly moral decadence this country is experiencing is dramatic. I am not saying that the previous government did not steal, I myself am curious to see what Prime Minister Fico has ready for the next press conference about the Branisko tunnel. But Slovakia did not before experience notice board tender offers and such clear theft as was the case of emissions. Furthermore, during the previous government the unemployment rates were going down and economics grew. Today it is the other way around and the crisis can only be blamed for a part of it.
People are beginning to see that they can not eat sweet social-romantic blabber, and that the reds are not good at economics. And so the time is drawing near to send away the person from the helm, who never really did anything in his life and always only lived out of other people’s money.
