Out of 2 million employees the state employs around 300 thousand. The remaining 1.7 million has a private employer and out of those 98 percent has a wage higher than minimum wage. The state thus cannot influence the wage of a vast majority of the people, because the wage is the result of a consensual agreement between two private subjects: the employee and the employer and the state has nothing to say about the nature of this agreement (with the exception of the minimum wage, which would best be abolished).
State employees remain. Here our Prime Minister made promises two years ago about how he will lower their numbers by 20 percent, even the government agreed on it (regulation 856 from October 11th 2006, task C.15). But since the Prime Minister again made something only seemingly, and the mentioned regulation is clearly just a piece of paper to him, no lowering of clerk numbers came.
Now we are in crisis, everybody can feel it and the private sector wages are actually decreasing. In this situation the Prime Minister heroically proclaims that he will not start saving at the expense of the people, which means he will not lower the numbers of clerks, or their wages or their bonuses. The crisis will therefore not affect a section of the population, which will certainly make all the others happy until they realize that clerks live from their taxes. It is unbelievable hypocrisy that the Prime Minister thinks about increasing taxes and at the same time tells people he will not save at their expense.
The solution then is not to throw around pretty phrases, but to start saving for real. This goes for fancy cars just as bonuses for clerks. And if there also was less stealing, the crisis would be over. That, however, is probably just sci-fi.
