Sloboda a Solidarita (Freedom and Solidarity) does not refuse a closer cooperation with right-wing parties, because Fico can only be defeated in this way (maybe history with repeat itself: in 1998 and 2002 Dzurinda did not win the election, but he still formed the government). However, it will also stand alone for election, with the goal of getting into parliament. Past developments seem to point in that direction. If the SaS could rise in opinion polls from almost zero to the current 3.8 percent (the latest opinion poll results by MVK) in the six months after its founding, it is realistic, that it will get the required five percent or more in the nine months leading to the election. Also keeping the 4.7 percent it got in the European election in mind.
The reason for this policy is the different nature of the SaS. SDKÚ-DS arose from the SDK, Most from SMK, KDS from KDH, HZDS from VPN and Smer from SDľ, Slobodné fórum from SDKÚ, Liga from ANO, HZD and Nová Demokracia from HZDS and so on. The SaS is after a long time a truly new party, not just a recycled one, which is run by the same people for decades, only in different colours. More than 94% of SaS party members do not have any past party background, none of them were communists or members of the secret police, and most of the members have shown that they can make a living from something other than politics. There is therefore hope for a truly new party and the development of percentages in opinion polls proves that there is popular demand. Any form of linking before the election would be as dishonest towards sympathizers and voters as the chairman (as in me) appearing on the candidate list of a different political subject. That’s why the SaS will stand for election alone.
