Unfortunately, we rejoiced too soon. Two fat years have gone by, the reds not only spent everything, they gave us record-breaking debt and as if that was not enough, they decided to save the economy. Maybe a stronger economy, of a different country, let's say Switzerland (this example is of course a bit out there, since the Swiss would never have voted such dilettantes into government), could take the red's attempts to save it.
For the Slovak economy, however, it is a disaster, our young country did not deserve this. In spring we already saw a series of policies as a part of the anti-crisis package that, in the best case, caused a smile and, in the worst case, harmed the economy. Then it was long quiet and one could have thought that the reds realized that since they truly do not have a clue about economics, they better not do anything.
And then suddenly bam. On the eve of the 20th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, when after 40 years of the rule of the same kind that is in power today the economy hit rock bottom and everybody was allowed to be equally miserable and who spoke up ended up in prison, the Economy Minister comes up with his strategic enterprise law proposal. According to it the state can classify any enterprise employing more than 500 people as strategic and then heaven protect the owner.
The owner of the enterprise will not be allowed to lay off more than 20 people at once, will have to ensure continuous production and if he decides to sell the enterprise, he will have to offer it to the state for a price set by an expert. It is great news for friends of the government. Instead of the usual recovery process and a regular tender they can squeeze the last bits out of it and then the state will buy their crumbling enterprise for our taxes. And all the others can be dictated by the government and told what and how much of it to produce. This is not the nonsense of the year, as Rado Baťo wrote. This is a tragedy and it's only November. We will see what our comrades get ready for February.
